So Today I Touched a Dead Body

Today, we went on a field trip to Saint Michan's church. Underneath the church are crypts, which house the recently...and not so recently...dead.

The tour guide that led us into the crypts was creepy to say the least. He said that because the crypt was made of limestone, moisture stayed out, so the bodies stayed preserved. The oldest "residents" were out on display in one of the rooms. There were three, estimated to be about four hundred years old; one was missing his feet because in those days they mass-produced coffins and he was too tall.

Then, in the very back, was an 800 year old mummy. The body of a crusader, he was 6'6", tall by today's standards, a giant by his own.

Now here's where it gets creepy. Superstition says that if you touch the finger of the Crusader, you'll have good luck.

...I touched it. Was it disgusting? Yes. Was it awesome? Absolutely.

I touched a mummy today. How many people can say that?

The one horizontally in the back? Touched him.
